Interdisciplinary research group with the focus on open data at the Faculty of agriculture is counting ten members after a year of existence.

The group encourages the supply and use of free public data from the agricultural sector, as well as from the other sectors required in the agriculture sector in Croatia and the region. Main activities in the initial phase of the group are landscaping and assessment of the agriculture sector open data in Croatia, landscaping of the biological databases of University of Zagreb and investigating requirements for the data literacy and usage of open data in the education for the sector of agriculture.

During the first year of existence the group successfully collaborates with the Faculty of electrical engineering and computing, Faculty of organisation and informatics, Faculty of geodesy, Faculty of Science, Division of Biology and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb. Developing a new framework for the assessment of the agricultural sector open data ecosystem in Croatia is the foundation of collaboration of our group with the Delft University of Technology and the University of Aegean.

Interdisciplinary research group with the focus on open data at the Faculty of agriculture is envisaged as the permanent place for engaging in interdisciplinary and multidomain open data research in collaboration with five other such entities of University of Zagreb. Currently, one early stage researcher (PhD) is explicitly included in our research unit, with considerate success and the open data topic is gaining interest among undergraduate and graduate students.

Counting ten members after a year of existence, the group encourages the supply and use of free public data from the agricultural sector, as well as from the other sectors required in the agriculture sector in Croatia and the region. The initial operational plan, during this first year of the groups’ existence, includes predominately landscaping and assessment of the agriculture sector open data in Croatia (applications, databases and portals as well as stakeholders assessment) in collaboration with open data groups at the Faculty of organisation and informatics.

Additionally, the group is landscaping biological databases of University of Zagreb (animal spatial, temporal, movement data, DNA (crio, in silico)) in collaboration with open data research group from the Faculty of geodesy and collaborating with the Faculty of Science, Division of Biology. A new framework for the integral sector open data ecosystem assessment is being developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and University of Aegean.

In the midst of the fourth agricultural revolution, data is the new currency and adequate attention should be given to data literacy of the agricultural sector in Croatia. The open data research group of the Faculty of agriculture is investigating requirements for the data literacy and usage of open data in the education for the sector of agriculture in Croatia, collaborating with other open data interdisciplinary groups from the Faculty of electrical engineering and computing and developing collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
